Vernon Lee Adams

Funeral services for Vernon Lee Adams, 79-year-old Moore resident formerly of Leedey, were held Monday at the First United Methodist Church in Leedey with Pastor Chuck Gilbert, Steve Riggs, and Dr. Curtis Adams presiding.

Adams died Thursday, April 9, 2015. He was born October 12, 1935 in Moorewood, the son of Clarence and Leona (Addington) Adams.

He grew up in Moorewood and attended Leedey schools, graduating with the class of 1954.  He furthered his education at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford.

In 1958 he married the love of his life, Gay “Gwendolyn” Morris, at the First Baptist Church in Fairview.

The couple then made their home in Bethany, Oklahoma City, and Moore where they spent the rest of their lives together.

Adams worked for the United States Postal Service as a special delivery carrier. He was also a member of the National Letter Carrier Association and the Antioch Christian Church in Oklahoma City.

Preceding him in death were his parents; an infant child; a sister, Quanah Cummins, and her husband, Leon; and two sisters-in-law, Geraldine Adams and Helen Morris.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Gwen, of the home; two sons, Keith Lorraine Adams, of Yukon, Curtis Lee Adams, of Dallas, Texas; a brother, Larry Adams, and his wife, Rita, of Edmond; his caregiver, Daniel Collett of Oklahoma City; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Burial was at the Fairview Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made in his honor to Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation Cancer Research.
