Twila June Gaunt

Funeral services for Twila June Gaunt, 79-year-old Weatherford resident, were scheduled for 10 a.m. today (Wednesday) at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Weatherford, with David Lawrence and Doyle Kinney officiating.

Mrs. Gaunt died at home on Sunday, April 26, 2015. She was born Oct. 20, 1935, in Dacoma, Okla., the daughter of Ray Phillip and Fern (Bruner) Bergner.

She was raised in Woods County near Carman until the age of 5 when the family moved to Weatherford. She then attended Weatherford Public Schools, graduating from Weatherford High School in 1953.

On June 19, 1953, she married Carol Gaunt in Weatherford, and they made their home in California, Ohio, and Illinois while her husband was in the military.

They returned to Weatherford in 1957, and her husband completed his degree in education, and they moved to Burns Flat and Yukon and then settled back in Weatherford in 1971.

Mrs. Gaunt worked in the Biology Department at Southwestern Oklahoma State University and retired in 1995.

Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Carol Gaunt, of their home in Weatherford; two sons, Kelly Gaunt, and his wife, Tonya, of Clinton and Todd Gaunt, and his wife, Samantha, of Weatherford; one daughter, Lynne Cornell, of Weatherford; one sister, Janice Klaassen, and her husband, Donnie, of Clinton; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Preceding her in death were her parents and six brothers, Laverne, Doyle, Max, Carroll, Billy, and Larry.

Burial will follow in Weatherford’s Greenwood Cemetery.

The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s research.
