Zelma Elizabeth Morris
Chapel services for Zelma Elizabeth (Thompson) Morris, 91, Custer County resident, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Kiesau Memorial Chapel of the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton, officiated by
Sandy Shepherd.
Mrs. Morris died early Monday, April 27, 2015, in the Grace Living Center in Clinton. She was born July 21, 1923 in Eagle City, the daughter of Arthur and Ollie (Hale) Thompson.
She was raised in Butler and the West Barnitz Creek area. She graduated from Arapaho High School in 1941 and married Harold Morris on Oct. 27, 1942 in Eagle City.
While her husband was in the military and overseas she worked for the former McDonnell-Douglas airplane plant in Long Beach, Calif.
They eventually made their home back in Arapaho, where they farmed.
She completed licensed practical nursing training at Western Technology Center in Burns Flat and received her certificate and worked at two nursing facilities as well as the Clinton Veterans Center before retiring in 1988.
Mrs. Morris was baptized and became a member of the Pleasant Valley Methodist Church at the age of 14.
She served as a Sunday school teacher for several years. She was a member of the home Extension clubs and was a 4-H Leader.
Preceding her in death were her parents; an infant son, Wesley Dean Morris; a son, Jerry Morris; eight brothers and sisters; a daughter-in-law, Nan Morris; and a son-in-law, Terry Hunter.
Survivors include a daughter, Shirley Hunter, of Clinton; two sons, Stan Morris, of Foss, and Larry Morris, of Arapaho; two sisters, Zerita Kiesau, of Clinton, and Nancy Burkholder, and her husband, Larry, of Noel, Mo.; a brother, Hal Thompson, and his wife, Frieda, of Edinburg, Texas; 11 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Burial will conclude in the Arapaho Cemetery.
