Erma Tsotaddle and Edward Tsotaddle

A double funeral service will be held for Erma Tsotaddle, 76, and son, Edward Tsotaddle, 44, both of Fort Cobb, at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2015, in the Fort Cobb First Baptist Church.

They both died in their Fort Cobb home on Sunday, Nov. 29, 2015, as the result of a house fire.

Erma was born March 31, 1939, to James King and Imogene (Chapman) in Clinton. She was raised in the Deer Creek area just north of Weatherford, and attended school in Custer City, where she graduated from high school. She then attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford for three years. She married Edward Tsotaddle Sr. in 1965, in Kansas, and made her home in Apache for five years before moving to Fort Cobb.  

She was a member of the Cheyenne Tribes of Oklahoma, the Mennonite Church and the O-Ho-Mah Lodge Society.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Edward Sr.; a son, Wilbur Dean Spang; her parents; her grandmother, Sara Flying-Out-Heap-of-Birds; her grandfather, John Heap-of-Birds; four brothers, Langburn Fisher Jr., Ransel Rhoads, Bobby Fisher and Lionel Fisher; and two sisters, Dava Ann Fisher and Lodema Fisher.   

She is survived by a daughter, Mary Jane Tsotaddle-Powers and her husband, Chris, of Custer City; three sisters, Helen Echiwaudah, of Carnegie, Norma Fisher, of Clinton, and Yvonneda “Henry” Thompson, of Busby, Mont.; a brother, Manford “Manny” King, of Lawrence, Kan.; a brother-in-law, Gary Davilla, of Oklahoma City; three adopted children, Lyberg Tofpi Jr., of Carnegie, Roger Dewayne Tofpi, of Albuquerque, N.M., and Gloria Tofpi, of Carnegie; two grandchildren, E. Jakohtah Temple Powers and W. Nesoy-ooKshyiowa Powers, both of Custer City; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Edward Tsotaddle Jr. was born Oct. 17, 1971, to Edward Tsotaddle Sr. and Erma Jean (Chapman) Tsotaddle, in Clinton. His early years were spent in Apache until his family moved to Fort Cobb, where he attended school and graduated from Fort Cobb High School in 1990. He attended Caddo-Kiowa Technical School for four years, where he studied auto mechanics and welding.

He was a member of the Kiowa Tribes of Oklahoma, the O-Ho-Mah Lodge Society and the Kiowa Black Legging Warrior Society.

He is preceded in death by his father, Edward Sr.; a brother, Wilbur Dean Spang; grandfathers James King and Robert Tsotaddle; grandmothers Imogene Fisher and Jane Davingkav-Tsotaddle; great-grandmother Sara Flying-out Heap-of-Birds; great-grandfathers John Heap-of-Birds and Clyde Dauinkau Sr.; two uncles, Lonnie Bert Tsotaddle and Joseph “Chili Boy” Tsotaddle; and three aunts, Billie Jean Tsotaddle-Hutchens-Anderson, Leda Mae  Tsotaddle-McKinney and Fern Tsotaddle-Littlecalf.

Edward Jr. is survived by a sister, Mary Jane Tsotaddle-Powers and her husband, Chris, of Custer City; four aunts, Helen Echiwaudah, of Carnegie, Norma Fisher, of Clinton, Yvonda “Henry” Thompson, of Busby, Mont. and Mavis McKinney-Tsotaddle; two uncles, Manford “Manny” King, of Lawrence, Kan. and Gary Davila, of Oklahoma City; the adopted Tofpi brothers and sister; one nephew, E. Jacohtah Temple Powers; and one niece, W.  Nesoy-oo-kshyiowa “Turtle Munchems” Powers.

The family has suggested that those wanting to give a memorial contribution  do so to the American Cancer Society Relay for Life, P.O. Box 1621, Anadarko, Ok, in honor of the Spiritwalkers Terry’s team.

Services will be officiated by Rev. Paul Bear Track and Rev. Gerald Panana. Interment for Mrs. Tsotaddle will be at Mound Valley Cemetery in Thomas and interment for her son will be at Tanadoah Family
