Paul Friesen

Funeral services for Paul Friesen, 88, of Corn, will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Corn Mennonite Brethren Church.

He died on Wednesday, May 4, 2016, in Corn Heritage Village.

Paul Isaac Friesen was born Oct. 8, 1927, to Peter E. and Katie (Heibert) Friesen, southwest of Weatherford. He was raised on the family farm southwest of Weatherford.  He attended the Friesen Country School before attending Corn High School, where he graduated in 1946. He also attended Corn Bible Academy and received his certificate in Bible.  

He married Melba Jean Reimer in 1947, in Corn.  He was employed with his father-in-law in the hardware store, and also worked for the chaplain gas station.  In 1955 he owned and operated the Corn Hardware Store, and retired in 2009 after 54 years of serving the Corn Community.  He also farmed for many years.  

He was a member of the Corn Mennonite Brethren Church, where he served in many capacities.  He was a volunteer firefighter, served on many project committees for the city of Corn, and promoted both Corn High School and the Corn Bible Academy. He enjoyed golfing in his younger years. He also raised fruit trees, and spent many hours caring for them.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five sisters, Lillie Balzer, Alice Wiebe, Tillie Schmidt, Lucille Rogalsky and Ruby Becker; and four brothers, Wilson Friesen, Albert Friesen, Harvey Friesen and Erwin Friesen.

He is survived by his wife, of the home; a daughter, Gloria Block and husband Jim, of Keller, Texas; two sons, Larry Friesen, of San Francisco, Calif., and Greg Friesen and wife Lisa, of Weatherford; five grandchildren, Jeff Block, of Keller, Texas, Noelle French, of McCloud, Brandon Friesen and wife Leah, of Kingfisher, Brittany Friesen, of Yukon, and Nicholas Friesen, of Weatherford; and eight great-grandchildren.  

The family has suggested that those wanting to give a memorial contribution may do so to the Corn Mennonite Youth Center.

Services will be officiated by Rev. Ken Gardner and Rev. Tim Sandy.  Interment will follow at Corn Cemetery under the direction of Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home.
