Shawn Murrie
A funeral service for Shawn Michael Murrie, 19, of Mount Airy, Md., was held Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2016, in the First United Methodist Church of Weatherford.
He died Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2016, at University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, Md.
Murrie was born Jan. 23, 1997, to Lawrence and Carrie (Goucher) Murrie in Weatherford. He moved to Wylie, Texas, in 2001, where he was raised and attended school until his sophomore year.
In 2013 his family moved to Mount Airy, Md., where he graduated from Linganore High School in 2015. He later attended Frederick Community College, where he majored in music.
Murrie earned many awards and honors through his music. He was 1st chair in the All-Eastern Regional Orchestra and the Baltimore Symphony Youth Orchestra. He played several instruments including trombone, guitar and piano, and he also sang in vocals.
He enjoyed playing video games, spending time with family and friends, going to movies, and exotic cars. Murrie was preceded in death by his grandmother, Barbara Murrie.
Survivors include his parents; two sisters, Brittany Murrie, of Boston, Mass., and Tiffanie Aiken-Edelman and husband Zack, of Leander, Texas; paternal grandfather Charles Murrie, of Enid; maternal grandparents Charles and Pat Goucher, of Weatherford; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, or to a music charity.
The service was officiated by Rev. Lynn Brack, followed by interment at Hydro Masonic Cemetery.
