CMS win sets up shot at perfection

Clinton Middle School football won its seventh (6-0 overall) and eighth grade (6-0) contests 22-6 and 34-13 respectively Tuesday at Elgin to set up a first for head coach Clay Chittum.
When the Whirlwinds face off against Altus 5 p.m. Tuesday at the Tornado Bowl it will be for a perfect combined record. For the eighth grade team it’s been almost full year since they lost to Altus in the final game of the season ending their undefeated bid. A win for Chittum and the Whirlwinds would be even sweeter. Chittum said he’s never had both teams record a combined perfect record.
“I’ve never had two undefeated teams,” he said. “I can’t remember a time when we did have two undefeated teams, even when I was on the high school staff. As far as this eighth grade group, I’m proud of them. We’ve got some athletic ability, but they’ve responded and been coachable. I’m proud to be their coach and they reflect my personality.”
