Ernest Chapa

Funeral services are set for Ernest Ruiz Chapa, 91, of Clinton at 1 p.m. today at the Broadway Heights Baptist Church.
He died Monday, Dec. 18, 2017, at the Clinton Therapy and Living Center.
Chapa was born Oct. 14, 1926, to Federico and Lorenza (Ruiz) Chapa in Alice, Texas. He was raised in Alice and also attended school there.
He married Maria L. Olvera Jan. 13, 1945, in Bryan, Texas. 
Chapa worked as a farm laborer and for several lumber yards, and he was in the ministry more than 70 years. He enjoyed carpentry, reading the Bible, and playing his guitar and singing.
He was a member of the Templo Marantha and had served as a past preacher there. 
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and a son, Samuel Chapa.
Survivors include three daughters, Ester Rodriguez of Denver, Annie Gonzales of Montana, and Elizabeth and husband John Acosta Sr. of Clinton; five sons, Ernest Chapa Jr., Israel Chapa and Daniel Chapa, all of Texas, and David Chapa and Zeke Chapa, both of Clinton; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Services are under the direction of the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Clinton Cemetery.
