John Rainge Sr.

Funeral services were held Monday for John Albert Rainge Sr., 92, formerly of Clinton, at First Baptist Church in Clinton.
Rainge was born Feb. 19, 1926, to John Henry Rainge Sr. and Daisy Kinsey (Hicks) Rainge. He attended Everglade Vocational High School in Belle Glade, Fla., and participated in football, basketball and boxing.
In 1944 he was drafted into the U.S. Navy, where he served until receiving an Honorable Discharge in April of 1946.
He married Mary Lee Hogan of Clinton, and soon after the couple moved to Florida. 
In 1949 Rainge began playing the saxophone, and later when he and his wife returned to Clinton he played in the Excelsior School Band. From 1950 to 1951 he formed a group with Rev. Billy Mucker and others. 
He was a member of American Legion Post No. 285, the Negro Chamber of Commerce, Clinton Blue Lodge No. 21, and was a charter member of The John A. Rainge Chapter No. 38 Holy Royal Arch Prince Hall Affiliate Oklahoma Jurisdiction in Clinton.
During this time he met his life-long friend Ms. Lizzie Louise Blue Jones.
He later married Dorothy Marie Randle, and together they had three children.
He worked as a bell captain at the Calmez Hotel in Clinton.
Rainge was preceeded in death by his wife; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Elbert Kinsey; his parents; his siblings, Henry John Rainge, Louis R. Rainge, Wilton Rainge, Rachel B. Everett, Dannie Adele (Rainge) Woodson Gayle, Macie M. (Rainge) Jenkins King, Bertha Rainge and Eddie Mae Rainge; his sister-in-law, Ophelia Rainge; a grandson, Terrance J. Rainge; his friend, Lizzie Louise Blue Jones; a granddaughter, Shari Hosley; and his first wife. 
Survivors include his children, Anthony Rainge, Jacqueline (Johnie Sr.) Bowers, Patricia Hosley, Sherman Rainge, Mary “Moma Ceda” Rainge, Quilla French and Algerita (Gary) Chatman, Dorothy Lee Rainge Satchell of Cleora, “Aunt Treca” (Diamond III) Farmer and John “Junior” Albert Rainge Jr.; his grandchildren, Keri Dawn Griffin Rainge, Shari Bowers, Ian “Oscar” Bowers, Johnny Bowers Jr., Nicole Clement, Jonathan Bowers, Desilon Atkins-Bowers, Kaytra Bowers-Lane, Wawquichesha Bowers, Angie Hosley, Shari Hosley, Twila Tyner, Christy Jones, Kenneth Jones, Jermaine Rainge, Cecilia Rainge, Rosetta Floyd, Natasha Graham, Randall Rainge, Keri Dawn Griffin Rainge, La’Christopher Rainge, Anthony J. Rainge, Angelica Rainge, Joshua Fishback, Caramia Ingram, Cajun Cox, Nyesha Rainge; a host of great, great-great and great-great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
