New Year’s was very quiet here; intruder caught

Clinton police reported a very quiet New Year’s here with no major crimes, no DUI arrests, and only one person picked up for public intoxication.
One auto burglary was reported in progress, but the caller said it was her cousin and he did not actually drive off in the vehicle. Police caught him a block away, apparently on foot.
Outside Clinton, Sheriff Kenneth Tidwell said a female intruder was found early Thursday morning in Bob and Nancy Smith’s guesthouse west of town off State Highway 73 but she stole nothing and did no damage.
“She had brought in some clothing and was sitting in a chair drinking a bottle of water from the refrigerator, making herself at home,” said Tidwell. “We’ve had a few dealings with her on other calls. She may have mental issues.”
He said the woman is from Clinton and is 50 years old.
Clinton police responded to a call for assistance from the Sheriff’s Office and actually found her, said Tidwell.
“Bob called in about 4:30 a.m. and said he had an unknown subject in his guesthouse,” explained the sheriff. He said Mrs. Smith had actually seen a figure first but was unable to distinguish whether it was a man or a woman.
“I think Bob and his step-son, Brad Lambeth, located her in the residence and detained her until the police showed up,” said Tidwell. “We didn’t have anybody on duty and an on-call officer was having to come from Thomas, so the Clinton PD’s assistance was greatly appreciated.
“She’s been going to different residences in the area trying to gain access. She was picked up once recently for trespassing. Because she was inside a guesthouse attached to Bob’s residence last night, she was arrested for burglary.”
Police Detective Sgt. Ray Hammans said the woman who called in New Year’s Eve reporting her 2017 Subaru sport utility vehicle being burglarized at 1113 Nowahy Ave. was Tiffany Moy.
“She said she had just found her cousin, Alberto Moncado Jr., in her vehicle,” said Hammans. “Officer Jeff Robbins was responding and found Moncado a block away on Nowahy and arrested him.”
Hammans said the suspect never actually stole the SUV. He said Ms. Moy’s phone was connected to a Blue Tooth audio transmission device in the vehicle and it had sounded so she had gone to see what was happening.
“She found Mr. Moncado with a set of keys and confronted him, so he left,” said Hammans. “He was arrested for attempted larceny. He did not drive off, but he had the keys and had the vehicle turned on.”
Another non-violent crime was reported at a house under construction for the Cheyenne-Arapaho Tribes in the 700 block of S. 12th Street. Police are working with Building Inspector Toby Anders on that one.
“A gentleman keeps plugging an extension cord into someone else’s outlet, basically stealing electricity,” said Hammans. “Toby wound up writing him a citation.”
Hammans identified the suspect as Leland Watkins, 55.
Anders said a pole had been set up on the back side of the house with a temporary electrical line attached so workers could use their power tools while it was under construction.
Still another non-violent crime was reported Monday at the Trade Winds Motel in the 2100 block of Gary Boulevard. Hammans said Officer Bill Gerstenkorn met with one of the owners, Manishaben Patel, who said a guest had checked out and when the room was checked, the television set was missing. The suspect was thought to be from Amarillo, Texas.
“We have yet to confirm his identity,” said Hammans.
