Dorothy Powers

A Celebration of Life service will be held for Dorothy Powers, 79, of Coquille, Ore. and formerly of Custer County, at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Myrtle Point Baptist Church in Myrtle Point, Ore. 
She died Monday, Dec. 18, 2017, at her home in Coquille, Ore.
Powers was born May 19, 1938, to James Orvil and Ella Pearl Stevens in Clinton. She was raised on a farm and attended Custer City School, graduating in 1956.
She married Billy Dean Powers in 1956. They made their first home in Anchorage, Alaska, later residing in California, Nevada, and then Oregon. 
She had held various jobs in the secretarial field, including as an assistant in a medical office and hospital. She and her husband ran a gas station, a country store, a hardware store, and an antique store. They retired when Powers was 50 years old and traveled extensively throughout the U.S.
Powers had a passion for music and played piano and organ in her church for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Jim and LeRoy. 
Survivors include her husband; three brothers, Vernon, JB and Norvil; two children, Todd and Gwenda; four grandchildren, Tina, Tiffany, Anthony and Sean; and four great-grandchildren, TJ, Trevor, Addison and James.

Interment will take place on Wednesday at Roseburg National Cemetery.
