Alberta Gladys Thunderbull

Funeral services for Alberta Gladys Thunderbull, 72, Elk City resident, are set for 1 p.m. today (Tuesday) in the Hammon Indian Community Building, officiated by Rev. Delfred Whitecrow, Rev. Delfred “Bunny” Whitecrow Jr. and Rev. Paul Bear Track.

Mrs. Thunderbull (Strong Woman) died early Thursday, April 2, 2015, in the Heart Hospital in Oklahoma City. She was born March 18, 1942 to Sidney Clarence Roman Nose and Edna (Swallow) Roman Nose in the camps near Hammon.

She was raised in Hammon and attended Hammon Schools. She married Tony Left Hand in 1953 in Hammon. She later married T.A. Thunderbull in 1974 in Clinton and then Dale Wheeler in 1995 in Clinton.

Mrs. Thunderbull had lived in Hammon, Clinton and Elk City. She worked as a nurse’s aide in nursing homes. She was an active and devoted member of the Indian Baptist Church in Elk City and was a member of the Cheyenne Tribe. She taught the Cheyenne language at the Elk City Library.

Preceding her in death were her husbands, Tony Left Hand and Dale Wheeler; a son, Clifton Roman Nose; six sisters, Zenoma, Nora, Myra, Nadine, Wynona and Gladys; a brother, Theodore Roman Nose; and a granddaughter, Lori Dorman.

Survivors include three daughters, Louise Roby, of Elk City, Lynn Morrison, of Mustang, Robin Wheeler-Hargrove, of Haskell; three sons, Keith Thunderbull, of Elk City, Gerald Pack, of Moore, and Tony Handley, of Duncan; a sister, Stella Roman Nose, of Clinton; two brothers, Wayne Roman Nose, of Ute Park, N.M., and Martin Roman Nose, of Elk City; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Burial will follow in the Hammon Indian Cemetery, under the direction of Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home of Clinton.
