Betty E. Potter

   An Eastern Star service for Betty E. Potter, age 88, of Lamar, Mo., was scheduled for 6 p.m. today (Friday) at Lamar United Methodist Church, after which the Potter family will receive friends until 8 p.m.

   Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Lamar United Methodist Church with burial to follow at Moorehead Cemetery.
Mrs. Potter died Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014, at Truman Healthcare Center in Missouri. She was born Dec. 15, 1925, in Clinton, one of three children, and the only daughter of Lotan and Annie (Willsey) Collier.

   After graduating from Clinton High School, she met Bob Potter, a Missouri sailor serving at Clinton-Sherman Naval Air Station.  They were married Jan. 21, 1944, and had celebrated 55 years together before his death on May 12, 1999.  She was also preceded in death by her parents and a nephew, Steve Collier.

   She and Bob owned and operated Bob Potter Men’s Wear on the Lamar Square for many years. She was a member of the Lamar United Methodist Church, where she was active in the Esther circle of the United Methodist Women. She was also a 50-year member of Mount Hope Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, and Lamar Literary Guild.

   Survivors include children, LaMalva Keithly and her husband, Don, Gary Potter and his wife, Julie, and Mike Potter, all of Lamar Mo., Janet Bowman and her husband, Steve, of Rogersville, Mo., and Kimbi Tidball and her husband, Mike, of Carthage Mo.; two brothers, Morris Collier and his wife, Aleta, of Lincoln, Neb., and Weldon Collier and his wife,, Patsy, of Weatherford; grandchildren, Greg Keithly, Stacey Keithly, Joshua Keithly, Erin Keithly-Coats, Nathan Bowman, Lynne Reo, Celeste Chaligoj, Camille Potter, Ashlee Jankowski, Austin Potter, Tyler Tidball, Trevor Tidball, Rachel Bromley and Stacey Bromley; and great-grandchildren, Zada Keithly, Ava and Nola Keithly, Henry and Lily Keithly, Garrett Bowman, Kalyn and Kadence Reo, Aidan Potter-Chaligoj, Becca Chaligoj, Amielia Blanchard, Haley and Elena Jankowski.

   She had been looking forward to welcoming her first great-great granddaughter to the family in April.

   The family suggests memorial contributions in her honor may be made to the Lamar United Methodist Church or Mount Hope Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, in care of Daniel Funeral Home.
