Clifford Carrel Corbin

Funeral services for Clifford Carrel Corbin, 63, Cordell resident, will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the First Baptist Church, at Cordell.
Corbin died Monday, Dec. 2, 2013, at the OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City. He was born Oct. 16, 1950 at Cordell, the son of Thomas Carrel and Doris Evella Corbin.
He attended first grade at Snyder and then completed the rest of his schooling at Clinton, graduating from Clinton High School in 1968 and from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford in 1972 with a Bachelor’s Degree in business administration.
In March of 1972, Corbin married Wanelda Berry in Cordell.
Shortly after their marriage, Cliff and Wanelda moved to Frederick where he became manager of the C.R. Anthony Store. He was the youngest manager in the extensive C.R. Anthony chain at the time.
In 1975, the family moved to Pittsburg, Kan. where Corbin opened and managed a new Atwood’s Farm Supply Store.  He then transferred to the Atwood’s store in Clinton as manager.
In 1979, Corbin moved his family to Bessie where they lived for 13 years. He managed the Otasco Store in Cordell and Slawson Oil in Hinton. He worked as office manager at Robertson’s in Cordell, worked at SWODA in Burns Flat and managed C & M Oilfield Services in Weatherford.
In 1988, Cliff began working at Western Technology Center, in Burns Flat.  He held various positions at WTC during his 25 years there.  At the time of his death, he was the assistant superintendant, business and industry services.
During his years at WTC, he continued his education, receiving a Masters of Education degree in 1991, and a superintendant certificate some years later. He also taught a night class in stained glass for more than 20 years.
In 1992, they moved to Cordell. Corbin served as a city councilman for Cordell for 10 years. He also obtained his real estate license and had the distinction of selling the very first house he ever showed.
In 2007, the Corbins bought a home in Oklahoma City, in preparation for retirement. They spent their weekends at the Oklahoma City house, and Cobin worked part-time at the Brooks Brothers Clothing Store in the Outlet Mall.
In September of 2011, he learned he was to become a grandpa. To be near their family, they sold the house in Oklahoma City and moved back to Cordell, where they lived at the time of his death.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Carrel and Doris Corbin; a sister, Cathie; and a son, Reed.
Survivors include his wife, Wanelda, of the home, a daughter, Chelsey, and her husband, Greg Derieg, one grandchild, Madalyn Derieg, and a daughter-in-law, Savannah Corbin, all of Cordell; one brother, Steve Corbin and his wife, Ree, of Weatherford; Wanelda’s parents, Dacus and Peggy Berry, of Cordell; Wanelda’s brother, Lavern “Straw” Berry and his wife, Penny, of Cordell; two aunts, Oma Lee Evans, of Cordell, and Darlene Carter, of Hobart; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
