Donald Gene Maddox

Graveside services for Donald Gene Maddox, 84, Clinton resident, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, in the Tucumcari, N.M. Memorial Park Cemetery.

Maddox died Saturday, Jan. 24, 2015, at Clinton. He was born Oct. 27, 1930 in Mangum, the son of Lena Mae and Bert Maddox.

Maddox grew up in Tucumcari, where he graduated from high school in 1948. After his graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served during the Korean Conflict, attaining the rank of sergeant before being honorably discharged in 1952.

He was married to Denola Novella Minyard on June 5, 1952. To this union 5 children were born. They lived in Louisiana and Oklahoma before moving to Calgary Alberta, Canada where he began his own business, Canadian Well Logging, until the early 1980’s. He later moved to Elk City where he began working in the oil field and continued until his retirement.

After his retirement, he volunteered to drive the DAV van to Oklahoma City, providing transportation to veterans. He also served as a chaplain at the Clinton Veterans Center and was involved with other charitable organizations.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his five children, Gary Maddox, and his wife, Cherie, Elk City, Michael Maddox, Dill City, Carrol Maddox, Patricia Mitchell and her husband, Vern, Calgary Alberta, Canada, and Ronnie Maddox, Cordell; six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren with one great grandson on the way; two brothers, Doyle Maddox and Bill Maddox; and one sister, LaNelle Evetts.
