Durwood Alvin 'Keg' Nix
Funeral services for Durwood Alvin “Keg” Nix, 92, Clinton resident and former Shamrock, Texas resident, will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 2, 2015, in the Calvary Christian Fellowship Church in Shamrock, Texas, officiated by Joe Jernigan.
Nix died Monday, Dec. 29, 2014, in the Grace Living Center in Clinton. He was born July 11, 1922 to William Oscar Nix and Winnie (Isaac) Nix near Shamrock in Wheeler County.
Nix was raised and attended school in the Shamrock, Texas area. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served during World War II. He married Margaret L. Billingsley on June 6 1946 in Shamrock. He farmed and ranched, did carpentry work, drove a truck across country and worked and retired from West Texas Gas Company
Nix moved to Clinton in about 2005 to be close to his daughter, Margaret Glancy.
He was a member of the Calvary Christian Church in Shamrock.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife; three sisters, Mavis Bentley, Sug Stapleton and Blois Rogers; an infant brother, Johnny Nix; a son-in-law, Chester Glancy Jr.; a granddaughter, Loren Glancy; a grandson, Brandon Byrd; and a great-granddaughter, Emalyn Sires.
He is survived by two daughters, Margaret Glancy, of Clinton and Cindy Byrd, of Lubbock, Texas; a brother-in-law, Doyal Billingsley and his wife, Nancy, of Amarillo, Texas; seven grandchildren; and several great and great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be today until 8 p.m., in the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home.
Burial will follow in the Shamrock Cemetery.
