Gary L. Cordes

   Funeral services for Gary L. Cordes, 60, former Clinton resident, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Clinton First Christian Church, officiated by Rev. Ross Foster and Rev. Wendell Folsom.

   Burial will follow in the Mound Valley Cemetery in Thomas, under the direction of Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton.

   Gary Leon Cordes was born July 27, 1953 to Joe Dick and Mary Geraldine “Gerrie” Cordes in Clinton and died Friday, June 13, 2014, north of Arapaho.

   Cordes was raised in Clinton and attended Clinton Schools, graduating in 1971. He was married to Glenda Hopkins on Aug. 16, 1971, in Clinton.

   He continued his education at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, but his education was put on hold while he served in the U.S. Army.

   After he was discharged, he moved to Eldorado in Oklahoma and worked for the Eldorado Co-op before transferring to the Clinton Co-op. He returned to Southwestern and earned a degree in accounting.

   He opened and operated Cordes Bookkeeping and Accounting for several years, as well as farming.

   He moved to Grand Forks, N.D., in December of 1998 and worked for Farm Credit as a tax specialist. He also moved to Grafton, N.D., working for Farm Credit.

   In April of 2003 he moved to Minot, N.D. and was employed with Gerdeau Ameristeel. In 2007 he went to work for Magic City Implement and Oil Company where he was working at the time of his death.

   He was baptized at the age of nine at the Custer Avenue Baptist Church in Clinton. He was a member of Our Redeemers Lutheran Church in Minot, and an Honorary Member of the Future Farmers of America in Clinton.

   Preceding him in death were his dad, Joe Dick, and a sister, Suzi Duff.

   Survivors include his mother, Gerrie Cordes, of Clinton; a son, Adam Cordes and his wife, Spring, of Arapaho; a daughter, Stacy Robison and her husband, Dusty, of Wolfforth, Texas; his fiancée, Leann Zablotney and her daughter, Tiffanie Fettig and her husband,  Barry, and son, Travis Zablotney and his wife, Kerri, all of Minot, N.D.; 10 grandchildren, Emily Jones, Haley Cordes, Erika Cordes, Cheston Cordes, Brandon Shackelford, McKinzie Fettig, Kelsie Fettig, Kylie Fettig, Karlee Zablotney and Tate Zablotney; an aunt, Bertha Ratke, Yukon; and an uncle, Gordon Cordes and his wife, Phyllis, of Vicksburg, Miss.

   The family will greet guests at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m. today (Tuesday).
