J.C. Walker
Funeral services for J.C. Walker, 89, former Clinton resident, will be at 10 a.m. Friday in the New Hope Baptist Church in El Reno, officiated by Pastor Dick Kurtz.
There will be a private family burial in the Arapaho Cemetery, under the direction of the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton.
Walker died Saturday, Aug. 9, 2014, in Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City. He was born Jan. 18, 1925 in Cordell, the son of Joseph M. and Maudie Mae (Stephens) Walker.
Walker was raised and attended school in the Clinton and Stafford area. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1943, serving in World War II. He traveled extensively and was always proud of the fact that he crossed over the equator twice. He was honorably discharged in March of 1946.
He married Norma Jean Newton on Oct. 24, 1948 in Cordell, and they made their home in Waxahachie, Texas, where he attended preaching school.
They moved back to Oklahoma and settled in Oklahoma City where he preached and was employed with the Federal Aviation Administration and the Oklahoma Department of Transportation, where he retired in 1988.
He and his wife moved to Clinton and ministered at the Indian Pentecostal Church at 18th and Hayes. They moved back to Oklahoma City in 1993.
He was a member of the Pentecostal Church of God in Oklahoma City.
Preceding him in death were his parents; a son, Jarell Curtis Walker; a sister, Betty Kingore; and three brothers, L.D. Walker, Chuck Walker and Raymond Walker.
Survivors include a daughter, Linda Baker, of Yukon; a son, Terry Walker, of Meridian; the mother of his children, Norma Walker, of Lawton; a sister, Jean Wallace, of El Reno; three grandchildren, Dedra Baker, of Yukon, James Walker, of Tulsa, and Michelle Locke, of Oklahoma City; two great-grandchildren, Korban Smith and his wife, Morgan, of El Reno, and Kammie Baker, of Yukon; and a great-great-grandchild Bentley Smith.
