Lila Mae (Hicks) Ladd

Lila Mae (Hicks) Ladd was born Aug. 15, 1925 to Andrew W. “Brit” and Mamie Frances (Kingsborough) Hicks in Cauthron Township, Logan County Ark. and passed away Friday, Nov. 25, 2013, in the Methodist Health Care Center in Clinton, Okla.
She was raised in Arkansas and attended her schooling there. Lila learned how to recite the alphabet backwards while in school, which always fascinated her children and grandchildren. She was married to Augusta Tom Ladd Jr. on Sept. 16, 1942 in Booneville, Ark.
Lila moved to Clinton and waitressed for many years at Ralph’s Truck Stop. She, along with her husband, owned and operated the Hub City Taxi Service. During her years as a taxi operator she did work for Southwestern Bell Telephone and delivered the Clinton Daily News on a route as well as to people who did not receive their paper.
Her main purpose in life was taking care of her family and endowing them with morals and values to sustain them as they went through life. She was also dedicated to her work with the Hub City Taxi Company.
Lila loved the people she met through the years and made many lifelong friendships. She loved working outdoors, planting gardens and tending her fruit trees and she loved to collect rocks. Once, she went to California to visit her siblings and their families, and she panned for gold which she enjoyed so much she almost stayed.
Lila enjoyed canning fresh peaches, garden vegetables and managed her garlic and poke salad faithfully. She liked to take her children fishing, and she played Yahtzee with anyone who would make time to play. Lila loved to play outdoors with her grandchildren, and you would often find her swinging in the swing with the grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Tommy Ladd Jr.; her parents and brothers, James E. Hicks and his wife, Dorothy, Dale Hicks and his wife, Glenna, and Hobert Hicks as well as special sisters-in-law Rena Williams, Nana Weeks and Pauline Hicks; her mother and father-in-law, Tom and Lola Ladd; and her great-grandson, Glen Dale Godsey II.
She is survived by her children, Sharron Ladd, Tommy L. Ladd, ,Charles Ladd, Carla Ladd Suitor and her companion, Robert S. Bryan, of Clinton, Okla., Carolyn Bradley and her husband Sammy of Big Cabin, Okla.; a brother, Carl C. Hicks, of Booneville, Ark.; a sister Margie Hicks Waggoner of Little Rock, Ark.; sisters-in-law, Betty Hicks, Booneville, Ark., Jean Hopkins and her husband, Dewayne, of Magazine, Ark., and Jaqueline Ladd, of New Mexico.
She is also survived by her grandchildren, Frances Shoemaker and her companion, Raymie Payne, of Foyil, Okla., Lee Harmon and his wife, Christi, of Batesville, Ark., Tommy Ladd II of Clinton, Okla., Bobby Suitor II and his wife, Rhonda, of Stamford, Texas, Micaela Suitor and her fiancé, Joel Marquez, of Arapaho, Okla., Jamie Spurgeon and her husband, Mike, Lindsay Baxter and her husband, Brad, Jon Bryan and his wife, Heather, all of Texas. and Michelle Willett Soverns of Pennsylvania; great-grandchildren, Brandy Parkhill and her husband, Joey, of Tulsa, Okla., Kristine Godsey, of Oolagah, Okla., Shannen Godsey and his wife, Amanda, and Dakota Shoemaker, all of Foyil, Okla., Tahkodah Harmon, Bayleigh Harmon and Joshua Harmon, all of Batesville, Ark., Peyton and Joseph Suitor, of Moore, Okla., Kayleigh and Bobeigh K. Suitor, Ashley and William Scott Baxter, all of Texas, Courtney Buquet, Katie Brant and Madison Soverns, all of Pennsylvania; and great-great-grandchildren Sydney Hull, Levi Parkhill, Drake Parkhill, Jacob Parkhill and Abigail Parkhill, all of Tulsa, Okla..
A chapel service for Lila Mae (Hicks) Ladd, 88, was scheduled for 2 p.m. today (Saturday), Nov. 30, 2013, in the Kiesau Memorial Chapel, Clinton, officiated by Bobby Stewart, and burial will conclude in the Clinton Cemetery, under the direction of the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home.
Over the years, many people and organizations have helped us care for our mother. They offer special thanks to Methodist Health Care Center, Western Oklahoma Hospice and family and friends who have given them love, understanding and support through the years.
