Margaret Eloise (Dunlop) Tisdal
A memorial service for Margaret Eloise (Dunlop) Tisdal, 92, Clinton resident, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Clinton First United Methodist Church, officiated by Rev. Roland Youngberg.
Mrs. Tisdal died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2015, in her Clinton home. She was born Sept. 29, 1922 in Spearman, Texas, the daughter of Roy F. and Lois Julia (Martin) Dunlop.
She was raised in Elk City and graduated from Elk City High School in 1939.
She continued her education at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater. Mrs. Tisdal met her future husband, James Harold Tisdal, during the summer of 1942, and they were married on Aug. 24, 1943 in Elk City.
She was employed with the Internal Revenue Service in Oklahoma City while her husband continued and completed medical school.
He served as a medical doctor in the United States Army, and they were deployed to Hickam Field Army Base in Honolulu, Hawaii for two years.
They moved back to Oklahoma and settled in Clinton in 1947 where he practiced medicine for the next 46 years. They made Clinton their home most of their married life.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Roy and Lois Dunlop, and her foster parents, Uncle Audley and Aunt Margaret Williams.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, an avid golfer and for many years a private pilot.
Survivors include her husband, Dr. Harold Tisdal, of the home; a daughter, Linda Johnson and her husband, Frank, of Dallas, Texas; three sons, Mart Tisdal, and his wife, Marian, of Clinton, Dr.Paul Tisdal, and his wife, Jan, of Weatherford and Alan Tisdal, and his wife, Claire, of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; 10 grandchildren, Andrea Berryhill, and her husband, Brian, of Golden, Colo., Reed Tisdal, and his wife, Stephanie, of Chapel Hill, N.C., Julia Tisdal, of New York City, N.Y., Logan Tisdal, of Ho Chi Min City, Viet Nam, Bo Tisdal, of Weatherford, Taylor Moen, and her husband, T. J., of Palo Alto, Calif., Geoff Johnson, of Midland, Texas, Todd Johnson, of Denver, Colo., Maggie Howard, and her husband, Chad, of Hailey, Idaho and Alexander Black, of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; three great-grandchildren, Landon Tisdal, of Weatherford, Aldon Berryhill and Ava Berryhill, of Golden, Colo.
The family has suggested that memorial contributions in her honor may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Clinton, Clinton Mission House for the Homeless or an organization of the donor’s choice.
A private burial will be held at a later date under the direction of Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton.
