Mona Marlene (Maloy) Whittington

Funeral services for Mona Marlene (Maloy) Whittington, 77, former Butler resident who had been living at Newkirk, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Custer City First Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Roy Wilburn and Rev. Keith Stone.
Mrs. Whittington died late Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2013, in the South Central Kansas Medical Center at Arkansas City, Kan.
She was born Feb. 9, 1936 in Butler, the daughter of K.L. and Viola Mae (Baker) Maloy.
Raised in Butler, she graduated from Butler High School in 1954. She played on the basketball team and was a baton twirler in the high school band.
She married her high school sweetheart, William Leon Whittington, on June 6, 1954, and they made their homes in Winnsboro, Texas, and Butler before moving to Custer City in 1960.
Mrs. Whittington had been employed with the local grocery store and the Custer City Public Schools.
She was an active member of the First Baptist Church. She participated in mission work through Campers on Missions across the United States as well as Mexico.
The couple made their final move to Newkirk in 2006.
Preceding her in death were her parents, K.L. Maloy and Viola Mae Fancher, and step-dad, Herschell Fancher; a brother, Gary Ray Fancher; and one brother-in-law, Neal Whittington.
Survivors include her husband of more than 59 years, Leon, of the home; three sons, Ricky Whittington and his wife, Stephanie, Clinton, Randy Whittington, Stillwater, and Russell Whittington and his wife, Marie, Jenks; a brother, G.H. Fancher and his wife, Marilyn, Edmond; two sisters-in-law, Dorthy Whittington, Butler, and Alice Fancher, Stillwater; an uncle, G.W. Wright, Butler; seven grandchildren, Julie Whittington, Jennifer Carpenter and her husband, Barry, Sarah Alvarez and her husband, Jose, Myrah Whittington, Leah Whittington, Cole Whittington and Blake Whittington; six great-grandchildren, Whit Carpenter, Cameran Carpenter, Coulson Carpenter, Reese Carpenter, Dominic Alvarez and Khloe Juelfs; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family suggests that those wishing to make memorial contributions do so to the Baptist Children’s Home in Oklahoma City.
The family will greet guests at the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home, Clinton, from 6 to 8 p.m. today.
Burial will be in the Butler Cemetery.
