Ray Friesen

Funeral services for Ray Friesen, 84, Edmond resident, will at 10 a.m. Friday at the Memorial Road Mennonite Brethren Church, 4201 E. Memorial Rd., Edmond.
Friesen died Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013. He was born June 6, 1929 in Custer County, the son of John and Irene Friesen.
He served four years in the Air Force and after his service, he then attended the former Southwestern State College where he received a Bachelor’s degree in mathematics.
He married Alma Doerksen on June 22, 1958. Friesen held several positions, including office manager for a construction business, owner and operator of a sandblasting business and a feed store.
After retiring, he worked as a custodian for the Edmond Public School Systems.
At an early age Friesen was baptized at the Corn Mennonite Brethren Church.
Survivors include his wife, Alma, of 55 years; his four children, Alvin Friesen and his wife, Kristin, James Friesen and his wife, Kris, David Friesen and his wife, Pam, and Joyce Barfield and her husband, David; 13 grandchildren, Misti and Brandon Draper, Ryan and Jessica Friesen, Ben Friesen, Bridgette Heinrichs, Sarah and Alexandre Dablemont, Chad Friesen, Jake and Alyssa Friesen, Breann Barfield and Jennifer Friesen; three great-grandchildren, Ellie and Wyatt Draper and Raelynn Friesen; three sisters; Norma Nickel and her husband, Vernon, Lois Barnhart and her husband, Jim, and Lucille Nickel; two sisters-in-law, Tesha Friesen and Melba Friesen; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents, three brothers, two sisters and one grandson.
Friends may call Thursday only at the Matthews Funeral Home, 601 S Kelly Ave, Edmond.
