Roy Richard Dean

A chapel service for Roy Richard Dean, 87, Clinton resident, was scheduled for 10 a.m. today (Wednesday) in the Kiesau Memorial Chapel of the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton, officiated by Rev. Roy Dobbs.
Dean died early Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013, in his Clinton home. He was born July 31, 1926 in North Little Rock, Ark., the son of Joseph Frank Dean and Bessie Jo (Brook) Dean.
Dean was raised in North Little Rock, where he also graduated from high school. He started working at the age of 16 on the railroad, doing repair work on the No. 8 engines.
He enlisted in the United State Army Air Corps in 1945 in the 6th Air Force. He spent most of his time in Panama working with the chaplain. He was honorably discharged in 1947 at the rank of corporal.
Dean worked for Sear’s department store, working on appliances. He later attended an electronics school in Arkansas and then worked for the Federal Aviation Administration for several years in Oklahoma City.
Dean married Glenda Stambaugh on June 5, 1980 in El Reno. They continued to live in the Oklahoma City area, and he retired in 1983. They moved to south Texas where he was involved in construction work before they settled back in Clinton to be close to family and for health issues.
He was a member of the First Church of God and did missionary work with the Navajo Indians. Dean also was a member of the National Rifle Association.
Preceding him in death were his parents; an infant brother, Frank  Jr.; and another brother, Joseph Edward Dean.
Survivors include his wife, Glenda, of the home; daughters, Tonda O’hair and her husband, Delwin, of Corinth, Texas, and Marilyn Norman, and her husband, Lynn, of Mustang; and three sons, Roy Richard Dean II, from Hawaii, Jim Newcomb, and his wife, Peggy, Greenwood, Ark. and John L. Melting Jr., of Windsor, Va.; 13 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Burial was scheduled in the Clinton Cemetery.
