Ruben Milburn Walker

Funeral services for Ruben Milburn Walker, 85, Clinton resident, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Clinton First Christian Church, officiated by Doyle Kinney and Jeff McDowell.

Walker died Friday, Jan. 23, 2015, in the Methodist Health Care Center in Clinton. He was the oldest of three children born to Ruben Sylvester and Violet (Culver) Walker and was born on April 25, 1929.

He was raised in Fairview and graduated from high school in 1948. On July 9, 1948, Walker married his high school sweetheart, Betty Jean Pool. He was baptized at the Central Christian Church.

While living in Fairview, Walker worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company and later Consolidated Gas Company.
In 1958 the family moved to Weatherford, where he worked for Arkla Gas Company. In 1974 the family moved to Clinton. Milburn continued working for Arkla at the gas plant near Butler where he retired in 1985 after 38 years of employment.

Milburn was an active member of the Federated Church while living in Weatherford and the First Christian Church after moving to Clinton.  

Preceding him in death were his parents and his brother, Dean.

Survivors include his wife, Betty, of the home; his daughters, Linda Syverson and her husband, Al, of Victoria, Texas,  Carolyn Grant and her husband, Jimmy, of Shoreline Wash.; his son, Bruce, and his wife, Terrie, of Weatherford; his sister, Darlene Beaty, and her husband, Dale Beaty, of Chester; his sister-in-law, Shirley Castle, of Garber; his grandchildren, Matthew Syverson, Tamara Syverson and Tony Szatkowski, Lane and Katie Walker, Kelsey Walker,  Carey Grant; and many nieces and nephews.

Burial will follow in the Weatherford Greenwood Cemetery, under the direction of Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home.

The family suggests memorial contributions in his honor may be made to the First Christian Church or Parkinson’s research.
