Thelma Young
Thelma Pherigo-Young, 98, died Friday, Jan. 18, 2019, at Grace Living Center in Clinton.
Young was born Dec. 18, 1920, to John Osburn and Jerusha (Hobbs) Osburn in Muskogee. She was raised in Muskogee and graduated from Muskogee High School in 1940.
She worked as an operator for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, and also operated the Corral Drive Inn in Muskogee for awhile during the 1960s.
In 1948 she married Odus Pherigo in Muskogee.
She later married Herman Young in 1964 in Bixby, and they moved to California in 1967. Following his death in 1969, Young returned to Muskogee and worked for the Muskogee Hospital until her retirement. She then moved to Clinton in 1992 to be near her daughter.
Young was a member of the Church of Christ and she enjoyed reading.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a brother, Ray Osburn; and four sisters, Josephine Epps, Kathleen Aust, Jeanie Thompson and Ann Stewart.
She is survived by a daughter, Jane Ewy of Clinton.
No services are planned at this time and under the direction of the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home.
