Wanda Juanita Gemaehlich Mullins
Graveside services for Wanda Juanita Gemaehlich Mullins, 94, Burns Flat resident and former Clinton resident, were held Tuesday at the North Burns Cemetery, Burns Flat, with Euell Wayne Sasseen officiating.
Wanda Juanita Gemaehlich was born March 11, 1920, on a farm northwest of Bessie to Simon and Alvina Kirschner Gemaehlich. She died Saturday, April 26, 2014, at the Clinton United Methodist Health Care Center.
Her grandfather, Albert Kirschner, emigrated from Germany and settled in Oklahoma Territory as a widower with five young daughters.
Her other grandparents migrated to Bessie while her grandfather, Johannes Gemaehlich, pastored the Bessie Peace Lutheran Church from 1906 to 1917.
Mrs. Mullins’ parents met and married in Bessie, settling on her grandparents’ farm.
On April 5, 1936, Wanda was confirmed at the Peace Lutheran Church of Bessie. She attended school in Bessie and a one-room school, Sunflower, near the Gemaehlich farm.
In 1943, Wanda, her mother and siblings moved to Clinton, where Wanda worked downtown at the dry cleaners.
On March 5, 1949, she married Glenn Olen Mullins and together they made their home on Glenn’s farm south of Burns Flat.
Wanda and Glenn attended the Burns Flat Church of Christ.
Mrs. Mullins’ family continues to operate and reside on the same farm that has belonged to the Mullins family for nearly 100 years.
Survivors include one daughter, Beverly Wall, and her husband, Tommy, of Burns Flat; grandsons, Ryan McMullen of Burns Flat and Raleigh Wall, Cordell; a sister, Velma Mullins, of Cincinnati, Ohio; and sister-in-law Norma Gemaehlich, of Clinton.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Glenn Mullins; siblings, Lenora and LeRoy Gemaehlich; siblings-in-law, John and Cleola Beardsley, Dale and Cassy Mullins, and Jack Mullins; parents, Alvina and Simon Gemaehlich; and grandparents Albert and Anna Kirschner, Tillie Kirschner Hamburger, and Johannes and Matilda Gemaehlich.
Arrangements were under the direction of Musick-Varner Funeral Home of Cordell.
