Man, pooch reunited after wreck

A coordinated effort by local animal rescue volunteers, the Clinton Fire Department and a City of Clinton employee helped reunite a man with his dog Thursday, two days after they were involved in a rollover accident on Interstate 40.
Bobby Sanders, 78, had left Wichita, Kan., Tuesday morning after spending a week there visiting his brother and niece. At the time of the accident, Sanders was traveling west on I-40 on his way to Amarillo, Texas, where he planned to visit other relatives of his. But while passing Clinton, Sanders’ journey was cut short when he was involved in a serious accident.
Chief Forrest Valentine of the Clinton Fire Department thought Sanders may have been trying to get off on the Highway 183 exit when he lost control of his vehicle. The minivan he was driving had rolled over several times and was resting on its roof when the fire department arrived on the scene.
Like her owner, Missy, a Shitzu mix, also managed to survive the accident. She’d been thrown from the vehicle during the accident, and while Sanders was still trapped in the van and waiting for emergency services to arrive, she remained close by. It was at that moment Heather Estrada passed by on her way home, and noticed the dog sitting next to the vehicle.
