John Stermer

 

Funeral Services for John F. Stermer, 97, Custer County farmer-rancher, will be held at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, February 19, 2019, in the Kiesau Memorial Chapel officiated by Pastor Katherine Scott. Burial will follow in the Arapaho Cemetery under the direction of the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home.
John F. Stermer was born July 4, 1921, to Robert and Emma (Langkeit) Stermer in Stafford, Oklahoma, and passed away Thursday, February 14, 2019 in the Alliance Health Midwest City Medical Center in Midwest City.
John was raised in the Arapaho area where he attended Victory School through the 8th grade and then graduated from Arapaho High School in 1939. He married Jessie Tackett in 1940; to this marriage a son, John Robert and daughter, Joan Johnette were born. He then married Edna Stermer in 1948 in Wheeler, TX and to this marriage a son, Steve was born. Edna had a son, Lee Lewis. He married his present wife, Virginia Hinchey in 2007 in Texola, OK.
Mr. Stermer had been active in farming and ranching most of his life. He was actively involved with Farmers Union Insurance for many years. He served on the State Board as well as being elected as Vice President. He also served on the Board of the Midwest Farmers Gin for several years.
He was preceded in death by his first two wives, his parents, daughter, Joan Johnette Quintana, a sister, Emma Lou Ratke, and an infant sister, Betty Ann.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia, of the home, three sons, John Robert Stermer and his wife, Gail, of Arapaho, Steve Stermer and his wife, Janie, of Clinton and Lee Lewis and wife, Joan, of Arapaho.
He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren as well as step-children.
