Robert Hummel

Chapel services with military honors will be held for Robert E. Hummel, 87, of Cordell at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Kiesau Memorial Chapel. 
He died Sunday, August 20, 2017, at Cordell Christian Home. 
Robert Eugene Hummel was born April 14, 1930, to Rueben Dell and Anise Edith (Wyncoop) Hummel in El Dorado, Kan. He attended school in El Dorado and was the captain of his high school football team. 
On May 21, 1948, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy with the rank of Airman. He was stationed in San Diego, Calif., and served on the USS Valley Forge. He was honorably discharged May 8, 1954.
He married Barbara Jean Smith Sept. 27, 1953. 
Hummel worked as an electrician, serving as general foreman on many of his assignments. He was a member of The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers for more than 50 years. His work sometimes took him out of state to Missouri, Indiana and Illinois. 
Upon retirement, he and his wife moved to Mountain Home, Ark.
He enjoyed fishing, golf, bowling, wood working and gardening. 
After suffering a massive stroke he and his wife moved to Cordell in order to be close to family. 
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother and sister who died in infancy, Carl and Carla; four sisters, Velma Betty, Thelma Elder, Irene French and Esther McCloud; two brothers, Mervin Hummel and Harry Hummel; and a son-in-law, Michael Reid.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Sherry (Reid) and son-in-law, Justin Richardson, of Clinton and Toni Munday of Oklahoma City; a grandson, Josh Classen and wife, Tiffany; two great-grandsons, Charles Reid and Conner James Classen of Houston, Texas; a granddaughter, Jessica (Classen) and husband, Adam Yohn; a great-granddaughter, Harley JoLynn Reid Yohn; and two great-grandsons, Ayden Wyatt and Jaxon Todd Yohn of Panama City Beach, Fla.
The family has suggested those wanting to give a memorial contribution may do so to the Cordell Christian Home, 1400 College, Cordell, Oklahoma 73632 or Faith Hospice, 1717 Main Street, Weatherford, OK 73096.
The service will be officiated by Chaplain David Washburn. Private burial will follow at Clinton Cemetery under the direction of Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home.
