Man charged with wife’s rape
A 41-year-old Clinton man has been arrested on a charge of first-degree rape for allegedly forcing himself upon his wife against her will shortly after she had given birth.
The accused appeared in court Friday afternoon. Special District Judge Donna Dirickson initially set his bond at $75,000 but lowered it to $35,000 after his attorney, David Mosburg, requested that it be lowered to $25,000.
An affidavit of probable cause written by Detective Sgt. Ray Hammans said the wife came to the Clinton police station Tuesday and reported that on Aug. 3, after she arrived home from the hospital after giving birth, her husband was waiting for her and told her what he wanted. She said she told him no, that she was tired, and tried to go to a spare bedroom. However, she said he blocked her way and put her in a “choke hold,” but that she was able to get away and went to the living room.
