Commissioners sending ‘bad dog’ claim to ACCO

Ares the drug dog was on the other end of a citizen’s complaint at this week’s county commissioner meeting. He was the one being accused of wrongdoing.
Commissioners were debating whether or not to pay Deann Gibson $230.51 for damages to her vehicle allegedly caused when Ares was sniffing it for drugs. Even though Sheriff Bruce Peoples initially recommended paying the claim, commissioners rejected it. County Clerk Karen Fry said she would submit the claim to the county’s insurer, the Association of County Commissioners of Oklahoma Self-Insured Group.
“I reviewed the video of this stop, and the dog made a clear indication of a narcotics hit on the driver’s side door,” Peoples said in introducing the discussion. “It very well could have scratched the paint.”
